Gift baskets are too expensive! What's a better alternative?

Well they are not too expensive but provide very little value for what you paid. I was looking at one for $50 and looks like it's a sample tasting of a few snacks. What's a better alternative? I know the receiver would be more impressed with a $50 box of chocolate but the thing is that what if they don't like chocolate.
